Enkai

Enkai is the God of the Maasai. Archaeology and anthropology have fascinated me since I was a little girl: authenticity, purity of materials and human essence.

I use whatever I can find in nature. My black soul keeps on drawing me to the African continent. My stay in Kenya and the nomad lifestyle of the Maasai inspired these works. Travelling is always a search for new pure materials.

I integrate and refer to elements from the daily life of the Maasai people - red earth, blood, milk and cow dung - into my painting techniques. Natural materials such as zebra and snake skin and thin wood layers, treated with pastels and natural pigment, are interwoven with elephant hair. These minimalist works of art, strong in their utmost and almost sacred simplicity, throne like a tabernacle on the altar.
